In 1977, a chain of office
was presented to the Edinburgh-Sutherland association president,
Charles Mackay (Strathmore), by the immediate past president
of the association, Hugh Macpherson (Rogart). In thanking Hugh,
Charles said: I promise to take good care of our much admired
chain of office
We are expecting a long queue for president
from now on. In making this donation Hugh, I am sure, had in
mind that it would symbolise the traditions and aims of the association,
[and] would enhance its strength and encourage its well-being.
It is up to all of us to make sure that he is not disappointed.
