Litir bhon ’a Cheathramh le Alasdair MacMhaoirn Deagh naidheachd ann an Inbhir Theòrsa! A rèir col’ais tha sgoil Gàidhlig gu bhith aca san fhoghar. Chan ann gun spàirn a thàinig seo gu bhith, agus a-rithist agus a-rithist bha cnapan starra a-nochdadh bho Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. Sa mhionaid mu dheireadh bha trioblaidean a bharrachd ann, ach bha na pàrantan deiseil agus le taic a’ tighinn às gach ceàrn den t-saoghail, air sgàth seachd mìle gu leth post-dealain a chaidh a chur a-mach, agus an uairsin thàinig gealladh a-mach bhon chomhairle gum bitheadh sgoil ann. Good news in Thurso. Apparently there will be a Gaelic school there in the autumn. This was only achieved through long and hard effort, with various stumbling blocks from Highland Council along the way. In the last minutes there were further difficulties but the parents were ready and support came in from throughout the world, especially after the 750 e-mails which went out, and suddenly a promise for a school came from the council. Tha e smaoineachail gu bheil am balach a-nis trì bliadhna deug! Tha sin a’ dearbhadh dhut an strì a bh’ aca. As I understand things, the council’s Gaelic committee were supportive, and the new Gaelic plan was instrumental. When it comes right down to it, however, it was the long-term dedication of people that made the difference, especially two or three. One woman has been involved since the beginning because she wanted her son, who was just crawling, to go through Gaelic-medium. The boy is now thirteen, which shows you the fight they had to keep up. Parents in Bonar Bridge are to be praised as well, but this time for establishing a Gaelic Fèis. They have great tutors and they were all committed to using their Gaelic, as would be expected. There are too many examples in other places of Gaelic events with little or no Gaelic in them. However, congratulations to the effort in Bonar Bridge. Fhuair mi barrachd stuth bhon

has gathered the views of crofters themselves on most matters.
As these opinions come from the crofters themselves, without
interference, one could hardly ask for more, but apparently this
isn’t good enough. To be fair, the whole exercise was set
up by the previous government, and now perhaps with a new government
there is a chance good will come of it.
